Press release KD Schmid concerning New Recording of Schwanengesang with Nathalie Stutzmann |
| New Recording of Schwanengesang
with Nathalie Stutzmann After the release of Winterreise in 2004 the French contralto follows her success with another Schubert recording. The CD will be released on the Calliope label in autumn. Hanover, September 2005. The German lied is her speciality the discography of French contralto Nathalie Stutzmann includes, among other works, six Schumann recordings which were made during the 1990s. In 2004 Franz Schuberts Winterreise cycle followed, to which she lent extraordinary tone colour with her dark, velvety timbre. After the international success of this recording, the Calliope label is now releasing another Schubert CD with Nathalie Stutzmann in autumn 2005 Schwanengesang. As in Winterreise, she is again accompanied by pianist Inger Södergren. "It was an old dream to record the Schwanengesang," recounts Nathalie Stutzmann. "There are not very many recordings of this work, and unfortunately it is rarely performed onstage." Schwanengesang comprises settings of texts by the German poets Heinrich Heine, Ludwig Rellstab and Johann Gabriel Seidl. These Schubert songs are also striking in their musical simplicity, which represents the greatest challenge for interpreters, according to Nathalie Stutzmann. "That is why this music goes directly into your soul and your heart. Nothing is more difficult in art than simplicity." Regarded as one of the most remarkable voices of our time, Nathalie Stutzmann has collaborated with conductors such as Riccardo Chailly, Seiji Ozawa, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Sir Simon Rattle and Christoph von Dohnanyi. Her repertoire includes works of the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods as well as music of the 20th century. Nathalie Stutzmann has worked extensively with pianist Inger Södergren since 1994. During the past few years they have appeared together in Paris, London, Berlin, New York, Amsterdam, Madrid and Milan as well as North and South America. The 2005/2006 season will include concerts in Berlin, Rotterdam, Oslo, Lisbon, Seville and Rio de Janeiro. Nathalie Stutzmann and Inger Södergren will tour in Japan in September 2006. |

BBC Music Magazine |
| "...Nathalie Stutzmann, the
discovery of 2001, sings Salve regina sobbing poignantly in this 'vale of
tears' - and authentically, too: all other current recordings use a countertenor
despite Vivaldi's specifically female 'cantante'. She must have been one of the girls of the Pietà, the orphanage where Vivaldi spent the largest part of his working life, and the depths to which Stutzmann plunges in Cur sagittas surely confirm that Vivaldi's choral 'tenors' were indeed exceptional voices like hers. A magnificent disc". ***** Performance ***** Sound |
